Top 5 Goals For 2008

1.

Medical Advances

Continue funding ground-breaking research in the Christopher S. Elliott Neuro-oncology Lab for Glioblastoma Brain Research and Applied Cancer Science Center at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.  Cutting-edge research being conducted includes:  performing functional validation of the genetically altered genes that cause Glioblastoma (GBM); developing model systems that enable such testing; testing the RTK co-activation paradigm in the clinical setting; and evaluating novel drugs for patients with malignant gliomas such as PI3kinase and HSP90 inhibitors.

2.

Education and Support

Develop a pilot education program for newly diagnosed brain cancer patients and their families via Social Services at local hospitals in the Seattle Metro area.  This important pilot program will cost approximately $25,000 to start and will require a corporate partner to underwrite the cost.  The purpose of this program will be:  to educate patients and their families about National Brain Tumor Centers (NBTCs); to provide contact information for neuro-oncologists working at nationally-recognized brain tumor centers in the US; and to provide valuable resources for information post-diagnosis.  The brochure will include a mini-DVD with testimonials from NBTC patients describing how NBTCs have helped them and increased their survival as well as information about CEF.  Learn more about this program and how to help fund it.

3.

Grow Our Foundation

Augment current fundraising events with additional opportunities that will satisfy our broad base of constituents and expand our volunteer base to keep up with the growth of the foundation and help us fulfill our mission statement.  Want to help?  Visit our Get Involved page.

4.

Reach the $100,000 milestone in our annual donation to brain cancer research at the Christopher S. Elliott Neuro-oncology Lab for Glioblastoma Brain Cancer Research and Applied cancer Science Center at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.  Donate Now!

5.

Non-Profit Incorporation in the State of Washington

Incorporation into the State of Washington, completion of multi-state registrations, our first official Board of Directors meeting, making applications for and receiving our own 501(c)3 status.

The Christopher S. Elliott Glioblastoma Brain Tumor Research Fund (CEF) is operating on behalf of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and world leader in brain cancer research.
